What makes business people persuasive in their arguments? Why is your manager/boss persuasive?
The power of persuasion is important in management. At Innovaxin Training we encountered a number of of requests over the last 14 years to deliver persuasion training and development for managers. In order to help our clients in tangible ways we developed the Persuasion ABC Model for managers which I will briefly describe hereunder.
In order to persuade you need to develop your attitude (a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person's behavior) and get your mind to think in a persuading mode. How do you do that?
- Belief you can persuade people
- Prepare your case
- Package your argument into something worth siding for.
Understand the background to the current state of mind of the person you want to persuade. This if a client is extremely cost conscious you need to package his product in a cost conscious way. Without understanding the background you are prone to fire in a foggy marsh where you can only see up till your nose.
Close your persuasion effort towards and end. Focus your attitude and package towards an end and how will life be after they decide to take your side.
"Persuasion is often more effectual than force."
