How can you measure motivation in your team?
This is an interesting question about the art of science in management. It is an art to pin down abstract feelings into measurable units.
Ok so suppose I want to motivate you to write a comment about this blog. What do I do to measure if I motivated you or not in a measurable way?
1-Define a measuring scale
Usually we use the four step scale
a-Excited and I will do it
b-Interesting but I prefer not to do it
c-Noted but I don't want to do it
d-I don't careless
2-Ask the subject to give an anonymous ranking.
This will help you to get an honest answer. If you 'force' the subject to give a ranking you may have false positive bias results so as far as possible go for the anonymous.
3-Sum the results
The more results you have the more accurate the picture would be. Now you can delve into the subject of why subjects are not inclined to leave a comments or whatever the question originally way.
