Steve Jobs, the late Apple founder one said in an interview that to keep your talented people you have to empower them to decide.
That is so true when you consider that
1-Ideas are the monopoly of no know
So as much as you may be right, you may be wrong or their ideas are better than yours. You need to have an open mind and focus on the big picture.
2-Your people may know more than you about their specialization
Thats right, managers may manage people who as specialist and their ideas are better than yours.
3-You are paying them to decide not to be robots
Hmm that is so true. Why hire someone not to let him or her decide?
So in managing people it is crucial that you let them decide with a common underlying caveat.
Decision must be owned and taken in good faith without personal gain or loss and in the best long term interest of the company if that is the case.
